FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –JULY 22, 2008
Godbold School of Business Brings Executives and Students Together at GWU
“It is a way to give back… and assist in teaching future entrepreneurs.”
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - From August 4-7 2008, Gardner-Webb University’s Godbold School of
Business will host, for the third straight year, The Bringing Executives and Students
Together (B.E.S.T.) program. The program is conceived to bring real life stories of
entrepreneurs into the 4-day long educational experience. It will encourage and energize
high school students of the Cleveland County school system before the beginning of the
new academic year.
“This program is designed to teach our kids the history and mechanics of the free
enterprise system,” said Dr. Anthony Negbenebor, dean, Godbold School of Business. “It
will enable our students to learn basic entrepreneurial skills that they could use in
assisting themselves and our society in aggregation.”
During the program, students will be involved in a series of activities such as
budgeting, banking, computer skills, marketing, and study skills. The risks and rewards
of operating a small business will also be addressed. Students will work with the faculty
and staff at Gardner-Webb University, student organizations and local entrepreneurs in
enhancing their ability in multiple areas of business.
Negbenebor affirms that the program is a way for the Godbold School of Business to give
back to the community and assist in teaching future entrepreneurs. “This year’s central
theme is Faith, Service and Leadership,” Negbenebor said. “The week filled activities
will include examining several cultures and how they can make a difference around the
globe.”
B.E.S.T. participants bring learning to life by sharing their experiences of taking an
idea and turning it into a reality. “In this program, we are trying to marry business
with the community, so to speak,” said Janie McClain, administrative assistant, Godbold
School of Business. “Our expected 100 kids are given the opportunity to come in contact
with real life business experiences, and stories.”
The program’s activities for each day will begin at 8:00a.m. and finish at 2:00p.m. with
an awards banquet scheduled for the last day. The planned sessions will allow students to
role-play real life stories of entrepreneurship, enabling each of them to realize that
they are the B.E.S.T.
For more information, contact the Godbold School of Business at 704-406-3229 or at
704-406-4375.
