NC Dropout Sees Record Low
North Carolina saw the lowest ever recorded high school dropout rate during the 2008 - 2009 school year.
According to the Consolidated Data report, done through the North Carolina public schools, dropout rates, crime and violence, and short and long term suspensions all deceased in schools across the state.
The drop out rate of 4.97 percent of the 2008 decreased down to 4.27 percent in 2009.
Eighty-four percent of schools in North Carolina demonstrated a decrease in dropouts, during 2008-2009 school year there were still 19,184 dropouts.
The North Carolina General Assembly has budgeted $13 million to dispersed to support programs and initiatives that work with students that are at risk of dropping out of school.
North Carolina schools are instituting strategies such as the Positive Behavior Support program to support students who are at risk.
