Gas Prices Climb, Again

Rising gas prices are making residents reach a little deeper into their pockets.

According to AAA Carolinas the price for a gallon of unleaded regular gas has increased 5 cents a week for the past two weeks.

The average price of gas in Shelby has once again climbed its back up to about $2.75 to $2.76 a gallon.

One reason for the jump in gas prices is due to the increase in price of crude oil.

Officials say this is the seasonal rise that has been seen every year around this time for several years.

The seasonal increase in gas prices is connected to the fact that many refineries do their spring maintenance in March in preparation for producing a summer blend. Gas prices increase as refinery inventories shrink.

If you are hoping that gas prices will plateau at around $2.75 a gallon, think again.

Officials predict that the price of gas will continue to rise 5 cents a week for at least the next two weeks.

Some analysts are calling for a yearly average of $3.00 per gallon for 2010, but hopefully we will not see $4.00 per gallon peaks like we've seen in the recent past.
