Twitter jitters? Survey addresses tweeters and security

Tweeting is more than the sound birds make, it’s what people do when it comes to one of the many social networking services -- Twitter.

But unlike Facebook or Myspace, Twitter users seem a little less worried about the security of their personal information. According to online sources, a telephone survey found that 46% of Twitter users are still at least somewhat concerned about the security of their personal information on the service.

But that's down six points from a year ago. The new finding includes 20% who are very concerned. Fifty-one percent of Twitter users do not share that concern, but just 9 percent are not at all concerned about the safety of their personal information on the service.

Twitter users are a lot less worried about security than Facebook users, records show. A separate survey found that 69% of Facebook users are concerned about the security of their personal information. It’s said more Adults under 40 have an account than adults over 40.

Those who earn more than $75,000 per year are more likely to have a Twitter account than those who earn less. And even though just 12% of all American adults say they have a Twitter account, 72% say they have read, seen or heard about Twitter.
