TALKBACK: Hidden treasures in your area?
Did you know there could be hidden treasures in your area?
Looking for treasures is fun, rewarding, and it's a good work out. All you'll need to find these treasures are GPS coordinates--it's called Geocaching. We asked people at Shelby City Park if they knew about the two treasures hidden on these local grounds.
"No. Until now," says Rebecca Headrick.
"No. I did not," says Vincent Whitener.
We asked if they would be part of the Geocaching community.
"It's kind of like a community...I never really expected to hear about the treasures," says Headrick.
Whitener says, "It's like a pirate or ghost ship...I would love to do that."
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game with over a million hidden prizes world-wide played by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.
The idea is to find the container's coordinates by using the treasure's information listed on www.geocaching.com.
You simply head outside and start searching--whether it's taking a hike through a secluded path or up a mountain--after all, they are cleverly hidden. Once when you find the containers, called Geocaches, you'll discover an array of hidden gems, but be sure to sign the provided logbook. You'll have to find out what these hidden gems are by walking the path to discovery.
